The Kanban lists in this file correspond to categories. One of the Kanban files manages my backlog (126 tasks). This picks up any tasks that I may have lost track of. The Tasks note has a simple query that gets all tasks from the vault except for the folder that has my task management files. So I'm trying a hybrid approach with two Kanban notes and one Tasks note. It works great for my work vault, but at home I'm wrangling tasks from all over my vault (they were discovered when I converted my OneNote notebook to obsidian. Kanban: I really like being able to drag tasks from one state to another.
I have been using Kanban for a couple of weeks and liked it well enough, but like these two plugins it uses tasks in one note. what turned me off was that they were based on a single note where each task is task in that note.
It was easy to see that I would spend lot of time troubleshooting why a task was not showing up in a query and then doubt the validity of the rest of the queries. As with most things that have a great amount of flexibility comes great complexity. You could also create custom attributes on the task. DataView has a very strong query language (DQL). You may be able to use it but it didn't work for me.ĭataView: Another option for picking up tasks from all over your vault. I had considered overloading the priority so that high meant in-progress. Specifically, I want to manage my tasks by state as well as due date. The problem is the query language is weak. I like the idea of creating a task in any note and be able manage it from one location. Tasks: I wanted this to work so much, but alas it is not meant to be. I've spent all day switching between Tasks, Data view, tq, Todo and Kanban. Here's the setup: **Recurrent / prescheduled:** This means that I can drop a scheduled task anywhere (like a daily note from 3 days ago) and it will show up on the appropriate day. The notes I mentioned are where I organize a lot of my to-dos, **not** how I get them into the daily note. , I checked my daily page and see I've done it using the TASKS plugin not transclusion. The daily note shows all of this in one page and it's generated automatically every day. The Work in progress note has my checklist of tasks associated with certain work projects. Recurring tasks are things like birthdays, taking out recycling, certain bills etc, and the Task plugin does a good job with recurring scheduled tasks with a simple pattern. But it also has 3 transcluded sections - !] !] and !]įuture scheduled tasks might be one-off appointments for instance. I have daily note template that has the routine stuff I want to check off every day. Just like a videogame, you check it from time to time or whenever you feel lost. My kanban is my map for my goals - it tells me where I am and where I am going.
The kanban I tend to open anytime I need to figure out my next task. Having a little to do on it is natural for my case. It is also where I dump in new data (interesting websites or quotes, ideas, etc). It's ok to only have some of the smaller steps broken out at once - eg "Hire a realtor" and then ask your realtor to help you figure out the next steps to do. There is not a right or wrong way really, but small specific tasks are always better then big vague ones. If this is a card to buy something, you might keep a list of links and research on it's note. For a recent example, "Write game campaign" was a card I had and it linked to where I keep the outline for that campaign. The kanban plugin will allow cards to be linked to their own notes. "Hire a realtor", "Put an offer on two properties", "Get a house under contract". Your "fix finances" task is a good example of a big task.Ī card should be a discrete single thing. If you need to group small tasks, use the kanban.Īnd for very big tasks, you can give them their own column. Eg, "Call the dentist" not "fix all tooth problems". Items on your daily list should be resolvable that day. Idk if it’s the most efficient way of doing this but it’s worked pretty well for me so far and it makes setting up my daily notes super easy. I also have hot keys set up so I can switch back and forth between notes super quickly so it makes editing and switching back to the daily note view seamless (for me).

Obsidian let’s u check off tasks in the imbed without going to the actual note itself, and even if I do need to edit the actual notes themselves, all I need to do to go to either of them is click the link in the corner of the imbed and obsidian will pull that specific note up for me to edit and update as I please. My personal way of managing it is by having individual notes for both my tasks and then my projects, from there I create a 3rd note (my official daily note), into which I inbed both the task note and the project note, so now both my tasks and projects are displayed on the same page in a neat little dashboard.
